    Hi there

Just going to request two forums if I can for Defcon 21 Contests. (official)

    1) The Social-Engineer Capture The Flag (SECTF)

    2) The Social-Engineer Capture the Flag for Kids (SECTF for Kids)

    Twitter is @humanhacker
    site: social-engineer.org

will be providing more details soon.

    Thanks
    Chris

This is not a question to guarantee you space or resources at Defcon 21 for your "thing" and this is NOT permission for you to run you "thing" at Defcon 21. This is so that when the Defcon 21 forums get rolled out LONG before there are "Request For Info" from Pyr0, Nikita, Neil, and Dark Tangent, I can create forums for "things" that people are planning to bring back to Defcon 21.

    (New contest/event forums

Just like for Defcon 20, Defcon 19 and Defcon 18, we can make the forums, but you are still responsible for submitting your request to bring your "thing" back to Defcon 21 when the call for information is posted by the goon in charge of the resources you need (DT, Nikita, or Pry0, etc.) , and before their deadlines.

    Re-stating this again:

I do not authorize contests or events at Defcon. Getting a forum for Defcon 20, once they are rolled out does not guarantee you a place at Defcon 20.

Next, this offer is ONLY for returning events -- thing authorized for previous Defcons, because if a request is submitted for a returning "thing" is is unlikely they will be turned down for Defcon 20. Any NEW "things" will have to wait until the "RFI" is officially published and I get an answer from the goon in charge of the area that controls the Defcon resources in question.

This offer is provided to help people planing, leading or organizing a "thing" at Defcon to have a place to do this, and plan early, and engage members with new ideas.

When will the Defcon 21 forums roll out? November 2012.

Thanks for posting this in public. :-)

This is a reminder. Day after tomorrow is April 1, 2013, which is the day that Pyr0 planned to pass out the RFI for contests/events in his space.

After his RFI is published, this special exception in making forums for returning contests/events will stop, and I will send an email to the contacts I have from "defconforums@gmail.com" as a reminder to fill out his RFI if you work with him, or other people if you work with them. (For example, if you have a village, you likely have a different contact, and if you have a contest like Hacker Jeopardy, you probably work with Nikita.)

So, after April 1, any returning contest/event, or new contest/event will take a little longer, as I will need to verify that you really are good to go, with the department head, or goon or staff in charge of the Defcon resources you want to use.

Some returning contests/event, especially those that are unofficial, and take place without Defcon resources, and are returning, can still see forums added without department head checks, because you don't need Defcon resources. (Examples might include: Toxic BBQ, DC Shoot, CannonBall Run, Private Parties off-site, or use resources not affiliated with Defcon.)

I am planning to run through the list above, for all contests/events listed above without forums and make forums for them.

If you find the forum for your contest/event is in the "wrong" place, please let me know, so I can discuss it with you.

(For example, it might make more sense for the Defcon Kids event forums to be nested under the "Defcon Kids" event, or maybe have a forum name like "Defcon Kids: SE Contest")

Arguing for changes, with support for ideas based on functional value is good.

Updates expected late on Sunday with forums being made.

After April 1, it will take longer to make forums, because of the verification.

And as always, the forums will comply with the decisions of the people that control the Defcon resources any contest/event/social-gathering might use.

      Thanks!
      -Cot

Heya man, I know who yo uare and have met you, but since I have no forum for this as a previous event, I'll have to wait until I hear from Pyr0. Are you still selling artwork on the contest floor or have you moved to the vendor room? Please let me know. If you are in the vendor room, I'll need to bug Chris instead.

Once get word from the goon in charge of the space you use, I'll make a forum. :-)

          Thanks!

Re: RFC: All contests/event/parties previously okayed: Will you be at DC21?

I believed I have made a forum for all contests, events and social gatherings listed above this point except the one for Yeti. I have an email to Pyr0 to validate as it has no forum for returning event, even though I've met Yeti a few times, and seen him selling his art on the contest floor for several years.

Once I have confirmation, I'll make a forum for him and his event.

In other news, we are beyond the April 1 deadline, so anything to be added now which would use resources under Pyr0's control will now require word from him as a confirmation before a forum is added.

(As I have stated at the start of this thread, the addition of forums for returning events is a convenience until the RFI is announced, and then just because a forum exists does not mean a "thing" is approved with access to Defcon resources. I'll be contacting all people I have contact information for, and send them a link to Pyr0's RFI once it is up, and remind them to send him their info if they want to keep their forum.)

Some time in the future, I'll sync with Pyr0 to make sure we don't have forums for things in his space that he has not approved and close the forums that have no such resources.

            Thanks!

New forum made for [forum=724]CODAME[/forum] event announced on the main website: https://www.defcon.org/index.html#dc21codame

Description: "Non-profit Festivals & Events covering tech challenges with emphasis on artistic expression and creativity. Bringing together independent artists, coders, game developers, creators, performers and musicians celebrating Art and Technology."

Also, Pyr0 replied to the question of Yet1 running his art donation for the EFF on the contest floor and it was confirmed. Forum has been made and announced.

Well, I'm a twit and apparently missed this thread and announcement the first time around. I would like a forum created for Crash and Compile. I understand it will have to go through the verification process with Pyr0, or whoever give you the go-ahead. I further understand that getting a forum does NOT mean that my event is approved, that I still have to fill in an RFI with Pyr0 and go through that whole process.

Let's see, did I cover it all? :-)

Thanks man! That is pretty much it. After April 1, 2013, I need to have everything go through Pyr0, and even if Pyr0 tells me it is okay to make a forum, you and anyone else getting a forum associated with the contest or event you or others are running will still have to fill out the RFI.

Also, I checked on him, and he knows about the RFI, and his people are working on making the resources for it to get it up and online. I have no ETA, except "soon."

I've sent an email to Pyr0 asking if it is ok to make a forum for Crash and Compile.

                  Thanks!

I received word from Pyr0 that it is okay for me to make a forum for this event (Crash and Compile) but as I mentioned, whoever will run it will *still* need to submit the RFI to him once that is announced.

In talking to https://twitter.com/punkrokk on twitter, there was a request to get a forum back up for the returning, unofficial defcon event "Cycle Override" a cycling event in Las Vegas

Here is the announcement of intention to return:
                        https://twitter.com/punkrokk/status/322531056332972035

I've notified them that since they don't use defcon resources (or the contest space) and they are a returning event, I can add the forum, but if they want to get into the program, they will need to talk to someone like Nikita.

I have an email from Pyr0 that it is now live and ready for service.

Register your contest/event/social thing if under his area of control with this website:

                              http://defcne.net/

You must first make an account there, then you can submit your info.

I plan to notify all people that have asked for forums in this thread by email from the defconforums@gmail.com account starting tomorrow. (I am too tired today, working on non-Defcon stuff.)

Also, if there are any issues with the RFI, if it is broken, or you can break it (sec. vulns!) please let me know. xistence@0x58.com will reach me, or x58 on IRC (on EFNet/Freenode).

The hope is that over time we can iron out all of the issues, improve the processes and RFI, and figure out how to best do this in a streamlined manner that makes it easier for the CnE team to approve forums to be created and get updated information into the hands of the people!
