On this weekend, I plan to roll out forums for any returning events with organizers posting their intention to return mentioned in this thread with plans to bring them back, but not yet added.

A reminder:

If you have a new idea for an event or contest on the contest floor or any space managed by Pyr0, he has announced his RFI is planned to go out on April 1. You can apply to use space with him on that day.

For all returning events that have a forum or do not, you will also have to fill out the RFI as before with Pyr0, or whoever you contacted before for us of their department. (The existence of a forum does not mean your event has space or other resources at Defcon.) I'll email a reminder to forum users that have comments here, using the forum email address, when Pyr0's RFI is published.

Two forums to add this weekend, so far:
* The Summit EFF Fundraiser
* Hardware Hacking Village (your contact may actually be Grifter if this happens in one of the rooms under his control: I'm not sure who allocated your space for you in the past.)

Astcell:
Not many ideas on the "slogan contest" except:
* It was on a server and contest run by roamer and/or russ (don't remember who else) and went away when the service and pages for it stopped being supported, maintained, upgraded, migrated, something like that.

For more details, one of them will have to answer. If it is going to return, I can make a forum for it.

Received word from GreatScott! to add forums for Defcon Entertainment, specifically the master conatiner for all Defcon Entertainment forums, and a general forum.Both have been created.

There will be multiple contest taking place in the Wireless Village but we are hoping to have sufficient space to accommodate them inside the confines of the village, except for one or two where longer distances are involved (spoiler alert).
I am already working with Grifter for the space and will be submitting contest documents to pyr0 in the near future.

In other news, I added a forum for the Southern California Caravan, and the thread for it has been moved inside it.

Should I make a pseudo-forum named "Wireless Village Contests" that takes users to the event forum "Wireless Village" ?
I worry that having two different forums may make it too hard for people to find your contests unless the forums are titled with the specific name of the wireless contest.

Thoughts?

Sorry for delay in reply but you know what has been happening recently. :-)

My question is about the definition of "hacker," what would qualify, and how this could be compared.

A while back, Defcon was claimed to be the "Worlds largest underground hacking event/meeting" and the qualifier of "underground" added enough ambiguity to allow the claim to mean whatever we want it to mean.

Next, how do you quantify "largest" ? Is that a measure of the total population as a raw count of people? Maybe it is the surface area? If it is the surface area, they what about Amateur Radio events, which traverse a large surface area of the earth's land, and are leaked into space?

It is ambiguous. I preferred the "over-the-top" ambiguous claim, which was a kind of "nod and wink" about the claim itself being as ambiguous as the definition of hacker.
