Ya I've been looking at DefCon stuff for some time. I knew the tents had there lane numbers on them. However Deviant was talking about in one of his own threads about some ideas of lane markers for "Down Range". There where some ideas but no one seemed to step up and say they would build something. So I email Deviant since I was not a user at that time and said I would build his idea for him and bring it to the event. Also after the event I said I would take them back to my house in NV and store them for the next year and bring them back next year for the event. I just finished building the base for the pennants and tomorrow I'll work on the posts and pennants themselves. I'm also in the process of building the stands that will hold up the targets everyone will be shooting at for the Competition Course I'm setting up.

But thanks very much for the info, even if I already knew that. Besides, you never know someone may mention something to me that I didn't know about. So if there is anything else you may think I'm not aware of please let me know the more I know the better. I am wondering about those that camp out, where exactly they setup camp. I would have thought everyone would have setup camp at the camping area a little farther down the road. FYI I'll be setting up camp Tues afternoon so I have plenty of time to setup the course Wed.

I hope a good number of people try the challenge since I'm putting a lot of my own time and money into it. I've only had a few people say that they where interested in the challenge, but a lot of people have been keeping an eye out on this tread. So I'm taking that as a good sign and decided to do the work and spend the money.

We just camped between the dirt pile and the range, where most people parked. Part of the reason for camping on the range is to watch the tables and tents so they don't have to be taken down.

Thanks very much for the info. Then that is where I will setup camp Tuesday afternoon and if I'm not in the exact place you guys normally camp at, it will not take me long to move my stuff.

Edit: Okay I guess I can't edit my first post, I guess it's too old to edit now. Well please pass this info to everyone you know that may be interested in doing the Competition. Thanks

I've just finished creating the documents you will need to print up and bring with you if you plan on competing in this event. I've added this information and link on the first post on this tread and the last one at this current time and date. The PDF should have more than enough information for you and then some, if not please email at: The_Sisco_Coon@yahoo.com

If you have problems downloading or printing the file please email me and I'll email you a copy. I'm not very good at spelling so you may find some mistakes, if you do please let me know and I'll update the file.

            Thanks

What kind of distances are we talking about for handguns?

              Color me intrigued...

                Hello someguy,

Well since this is the first year for this event I'm keeping things simple. Right now I don't know if anyone is going to run the course let alone with what type of gun there going to use not to mention what days or times they are going to want to run the course. So basically I don't know who is going to be using a hand gun or a long gun. The first guy/girl may use a hand gun but the next guy/girl will want to use a long gun. It's alot of work for me to have to keep changing the distances of targets for each shooter.

So for this year ALL targets will be 40ft away which is just over 13yds. It should be close enough for hand guns to hit the targets but not far enough way for long guns to be challenged. This year is a trial run, if it does well it will be a part of DefCon every year. If it does then I'll put more money and time into the targets and distances and such. As it is right now I've got over $100 bucks into the targets plus my time building them.

5 Targets at 3ft tall; 5 targets at 4ft tall (Total of 10 Targets)
2 Rounds Fired at each Target (Total of 20 Rounds)
                Max Distance is 40ft (13.3yrd)

Does that answer your question well enough?

Re: Competition Shoot for DefCon21 Shoot Event

                  (Edited for spelling errors, sorry)

                  Also someguy and everyone else,

Yes the target distance should be a walk in the park for the Long Gun guys/gales compared to the Hand Gun guys/gales. But keep in mind that there are actually 2 people that will have the bragging rights of being the "Top Shot Tactical Hacker", one for each class Hand Gun and Long Guns. I don't think anyone will be bring there paint ball gun or BB gun to do the course with but if they do they are Classed as "Other". I'm doing the shorter distance because I think more people will want to do it with hand guns since they are smaller and easier to pack onto an airplane.

I know this is a pretty simple run and setup as the way it sounds right now. But keep this in mind, I have two different height targets, they may or may not be setup in pairs (in relation to each "Shooter Box"), I'm not going to tell you where they are exactly, they may or may not be all setup at the max of 40ft (13.3yrd), and your being scored by both points for each hit and timed as well.

I want this to simply be fun for EVERYONE. And if all goes well this year next year I'll make it much more interesting. I've already got a number of ideas I plan on doing next year to make things more challenging. But this year I want to make it simple so that people get and idea of what it is all about. Easy as in they don't have to have any special type of gun or setup to do this course and not a lot of ammo as well (20 Rounds Total). Even more so with the ammo since it's costly now and hard to get as well.

Here is a hint to what I may do next year. I'm thinking about setting up a sniper shot at the end of the course where you will get 3 -5 rounds fired at a target with MY gun to hit the target. Each hit will be a point or maybe best out of 5. Or I may do the same thing but with a metal reactive target and do the same thing 3-5 rounds. I decided to use my gun so that no one knows how to shoot it. It adds to the challenge and real skill of picking up a gun not yours and shooting it accurately. Doesn't sound too hard to you? Well you will be shooting a 22LR at a distance of at least 100yrds (300ft). May not sound too hard but that small bullet drops pretty far and pretty fast at that distance! You will have a scope to use and if you have a good enough of an eye you will see the ark of the bullet in my scope.

                  Does that interest everyone enough?

have you talked to deviant about including announcing who won in his closing remarks after the show? They do this for all the other real contests during that time.

Yes I did I emailed him the other day about that and a couple of other things as well. I will do my best to get him that info in time, but either way I'm going to post the results up on the forum anyways.

In other news....It's Official.....The Hacker War Games (aka: W.O.P.R War Operation Planned Response) is now an "Unofficial" Part of DefCon now. I'm not sure if I get a small section on the forum for it located outside of the DefCon Shoot events' forum, but if I do all the information will be located there as soon as I figure that out.

                      Thanks for the support everyone.

Sweet!! The more the better! With that gun you should have no problems breezing right through the course. :) Oh ya I forgot to mention in that email I sent you the other night. Staff lane is going to be labeled "S" just like the # lanes.

Is the time required to holster and move to the next shooting area part of the scored time?

In competition (USPSA, IDPA), you NEVER RE-holster and move with a loaded gun.

You said you NEVER move with a loaded gun. A little confusing but i think I get your meaning. Here is the problem and why I'm demanding the re-holstering. when you add movement and action with a loaded gun there is a chance of firing off a round with out meaning too. That is the safety problem!!! This is not an official USPSA, IDPA event, you do not have to pay a fee to enter the contest, the event is not insured if you shoot yourself or someone else. This is some guy (Me) setting up targets for EVERYONE to shoot at making it into a contest for FUN!! If this was an official event and insured against such things I would be doing it different.

I'm sorry the re-holstering/re-slinging your firearm is a MUST, no if ands or buts. I don't feel like getting shot and relying on the person who shot me to pay for my medical bills. I get the feeling you don't like getting timed for the re-holstering thing, but keep in mind EVERYONE will be doing the same thing. Rifles are not in the same class has Hand Guns, there will be TWO winners one for each Class. Keep in mind as well this is just for FUN and I want to make it easy, safe, and fun for everyone to enjoy.

And yes time will be counted but it's not the only thing that counts. Accuracy counts alot!!!! So what if you finish the course in 3min and do it faster than everyone else. It doesn't count for anything if you didn't hit many targets. Accuracy is what really counts for THIS years course, time is just to settle things if 2 people get the same score in points. And there is NO TIME LIMIT to complete the course, you can take as long as you want to shoot all your targets and can even walk to each target if you want too.

If your unsure about the course and would like to see it first before you do it your welcome to watch and see. I'm assuming your going to be bringing a gun of some sort. Just bring a holster, extra Mag (there good to have for your gun anyways), and 10 printed targets if you can. I will have some for people but I can't supple everyone with targets (I may be able to glue new printed targets on the old card board, will help if it works). If you like the course then your all set if you bring those few things.

Does that help you out, or are there still other questions about it? FYI I will only be able to answer questions on the forum up to tonight. After that I'll be on the road driving to the Shoot site to setup everything. I'm leave at 5am PST, after tonight you will have to sent your questions to my email address (The_Sisco_Coon@yahoo.com) and hope that between spots in the Desert I can answer them for you.

Thanks and I hope to see you out there even though you will have to re-holster your firearm :(

Not arguing the point. Just clarifying.

You've taken on a hell of a task and done very well for the constraints involved.

You DO move with a loaded weapon. You do NOT reholster the live weapon in a course fire.

Moving with a loaded weapon is ALWAYS the most dangerous part and where most AD's occur. BUT, reholstering a weapon, under stress, is considered more dangerous.

I understand that this is not an IDPA or USPSA match, but they are organizations who have put a lot of thought and experience into the safety of these sorts of actions.

I'm not sure if I'm going to come out and play this year. I'm usually a "helper". Deviant will vouch for me. But this year has been crazy for me and I'm considering simplifying my DefCon trip by leaving guns at home.

If I come, I will help. I might even shoot. I don't have a lane or anything and it depends on whether I decide to pack my junk.

Either way, I appreciate your work to bring a new facet of fun to the DefCon shoot!

                                Thanks!
