- Present DCG "owner" completes login to forums account.
- Owner visits https://forum.defcon.org/social-groups
- Owner finds the social-group DCG in this part of the forums they wish to transfer to another user and click on this DCG (Example: https://forum.defcon.org/node/231536 )
- Owner locates "gear" icon under lower-right corner of the far right DCG image/icon, and left-clicks. (If you are not an owner or forum Admin or maybe "Forum SuperMod", you probably won't see the gear.)
- A "DCG Moderator" is NOT a forum moderator. Forum moderators moderate all forum content anywhere and can ban users. DCG Moderators only have limited controls for *content* management within the DCG social space, not user management. They cannot ban, or unban users.
- A drop-down menu appears, Owner locates line item in drop-down called "Manage Group Manager"
- New page loads: Owner locates large text-field for , "Add Leader/Organizer" types or pastes the username of the account to eventually become new owner, then owner clicks the submit button called "Add"
- Same updated page re-loads, showing the new username added as "moderator" listed on a row near another row with "owner"
- Owner locates a submit button on the same row as their username, a button named, "transfer," and selects "transfer"
- New Pop-up appears, "Transfer Group Ownership": present owner re-types the username previously added as a "Leader/Organizer".
- Present owner choose "Send Request"
- For a short time (until the new owner accepts ownership) the present, old owner can cancel the transfer. After the new owner accepts, the cancel option will no longer work:
Steps for new, to-be, DCG owner looking to accept transfer of ownership:
- New to-be Owner logs into forums account.
- New to-be Owner locates top-right gray bar above "Forum search box" then locates text/link "Notifcations" , and selects "Notifications"
- Drop-down should appear, and the new to-be owner should locate the row named "Requests" and select it.
- A new page loads. New to-be owner should locate a request in the form "OLD_OWNER_USER_NAME has invited you to be a moderator of NAME_OF_DCG_LOCATION_LOCATION" with choices "Ignore" or "Accept": choose accept
- Confirmation appears, select ok:
- New page loads. New to-be owner should locate a request in the form "OLD_OWNER_USER_NAME has invited you to be an owner of NAME_OF_DCG_LOCATION_LOCATION" with choices "Ignore" or "Accept": choose accept
- New to-be Owner then should see confirmation. Select ok:
- Now the "New to-be Owner" should be the "Owner" of the DCG.
- Now, the Old-Owner is no longer owner. If they were also a "Leader/Organizer" or "DCG Manager" or "DCG Moderator" the new owner can remove them if they want to.
- New Owner visits https://forum.defcon.org/social-groups
- New Owner should locate the DCG where they are now owner and click on the link for it. (New-Owner finds DCG in this part of the forums and click on their DCG (Example: https://forum.defcon.org/node/231536 ))
- New-Owners locates "gear" icon under lower-right corner of the far right DCG icon/image, and left-clicks the gear.
- A drop-down menu appears, New-Owner locates line item in drop-down called "Manage Group Manager"
- New page loads showing New-Owner or Leader/Organizer, and any existing Group Managers, and options to add more Leader/Organizers.
- New-Owner can see if old owner is listed and remove them as a leader/organizer or manager or "DCG Moderator" .
- Process is complete.

- Edit Group Icon (the image people see): Only "Browse an image from your hard drive and upload." is supported. The option to specify a URL to have forums "download" an image for you, probably won't work due to restrictions.
