I have to confess that I like the people I hang out with better than the speakers!

I think the most important thing NOT to miss: Having a good time, meeting good people, learning new and exciting things.... and of course VV :D , I mean the diversity of people that attend the CON.

I dont know many people at defcon so I actually prefer the talks more than just hanging out with people. ;)

What I meant was that as top notch as the talks are, the people there are what make it what it is, not necessarily the subject matter.

I agree with you. I just need to attend a few more defcons before I know enough people to just hangout and have a good time.:p I also see defcon as a time I can catch up on the latest developments.

Yeah, I think the two big reasons why I'm looking forward to going are 1) meeting a bunch of cool people who know way more than me, and 2) discovering what it means to cure a hangover with more alchohol.

I figure if I accidentally learn something while I'm there, well all the better.

No offense - I am all for the al-kee-haul but my main goal at CON is to go into sponge mode. I am flying out to Cancun after the CON and intend to do most of my drunken stumbling there.

Besides, how much can you actually remember being blasted all the time. ;) No one wants to goto talks with a screaming hangover.

Additional note: Tequilla slammers at 7am cure hangovers well....learned that last summer in Mexico.

Notes help with the remembering bit. And being in the same frame of mind as the speaker might help you understand them a bit more. ;)
