.. just thought of another event I would like to see.. THE SOCIAL ENGINEERING CONTEST! I have heard rumors that it will be back, any input Siviak? ;)

I have a LOT of input as far as the SE contest goes... but I wont go into deatils here... just yet anyway.. I have to fill out my plans for world domination.. then onto the SE contest... just for the record.. what would "you people" think about having some "real time" tasks/missions/assignments... instead of making calls.. go in, real time, and get the info.... or something like "get the info.. bring it to me.. no questions asked..." ... just figured I would throw it out there for ya
If I had a nickle for every time someone offered me ten cents to keep my two cents to myself... I would be a rich man.

It would be nice to have that maybe as part of an SE scavanger hunt, but part of the fun of making calls is getting to hear what is taking place, observing the skill in action, and taking notes as the pearls fly by.

"You people"?!? Just what are you trying to say...

I hope this does not sound too soppy....

I have something I'd like to see, it'd only take 60 seconds....

...At opening ceremonies how about a minute of silence for folks like Ghent, our troops, and any other rememberances of the last year which makes being here so special?

That is a must, I think we need a small rememberance thing...maybe a goon tag mounted somewhere in honor of ghent. If not that then at least something in the program.

here here... we have lost a good man... and tho we have lost only a few over the years that DefCOn has been around I think we all need to take a moment and remember all those that have gone before us...

Well, I was just on da IRC chatting it up....

the idea was for a dumpster diving contest....held at the ap...where information would be placed in a dumpster around the hotel...the team which retrives this information wins the prize of something....or we could have points awarded on what kinda interesting information is found, team with best intel, wins....

Seems unlikely that this will happen. By encouraging attendees to hop in a dumpster full of broken glass from the insane number of beer and liquor bottles that are consumed at DefCon we would be opening ourselves up to some potential litigation.

Plus you fuckers smell bad enough by Sunday morning...I don't think we needed the added stench of refuse to enhance our olifactory experience.

It could all be rigged to a single dumpster, which only the defcon staff would have access to, and it would be clearly marked...secured with a pad lock, so there would need to be other skills involved. A person would be timed on how quickly they could retrive this intel from the offical dumpster.

I, for one would like to see a SE contest next year (this year??) I was the one who shouted out "SOCIAL ENGINEERING CONTEST!" at the closing ceremonies.

I also would like to sponsor a "classic coding" contest - I'm not sure yet how I would run it, but, well, I think that some sort of classic hardware coding contest would be fun. Watch for a new thread on this soon.

Didn't someone do an act that involved calling tech support for Microsoft and asking tough questions?

I'd like to see some hidden camera work. We have a whole year to go to CompUsa or other store and get the sales pitch on why we need to buy this or that. we can take the most outlandish claims and air them on Defcon TV!

That would be funny as hell, take a cam are record the claims these people make about hardware, and software. "will this firewall keep out all the 1338 haxors?"

I personally go to compusa and if they come up to me and ask if I have questions, i usually grill em.....the wifi section is my favorite.....

Some of the best things I have overheard in computer stores over the years:

"Mac has more programs available for it than Windows"
"You need to replace your power strip around every 6 months."
                            "DOS is included with Windows"
"You save a lot of money on software because this computer already comes with AOL."

Yea, get me a hidden camera, quick!

A return of the SE contest would be nice, but I don't see that happening with the anal retentiveness of the feds lately. I would definitely like to see the TCP/IP drinking game again.

What did I do to make you think I give a shit?
