    The Prisoner?!

Uh, what would it take to get that shipped to my village before it leaves the US? Offers of stong drink? My firstborn male child? (A little old, but he is housebroken.) A lifetime membership in the Illuminati? Uh, strike that last one, that's how I ended up in this village in the first place...

Seriously, I'd be happy to ship it on to the the oversees folks after a quick copy.

not a problem at all, man. heh, you still interested in that bus investment that some of us fellow east-coasters were talking about? because that is a down the road project that will require as many financially solvent participants as possible.
"I'll admit I had an OiNK account and frequented it quite often… What made OiNK a great place was that it was like the world's greatest record store… iTunes kind of feels like Sam Goody to me. I don't feel cool when I go there. I'm tired of seeing John Mayer's face pop up. I feel like I'm being hustled when I visit there, and I don't think their product is that great. DRM, low bit rate, etc... OiNK it existed because it filled a void of what people want."

        Thanks.

I'd definately like to help on the bus. After all, when the TSA and airlines force us to fly in Hannibal Lector getups, sans laptops and other tech, I'll need some reliable transport to DC.

What a fantastic way to brighten up my day. My thanks to everyone who's gotten this project rolling and on the way. Deviant, as usual, you're brilliant!!!

Remind me to put you down for an extra helping of tasty scotch wonderfulness when I get back to Canada. The box is exellently laid out, the hard drives well cushioned and provisioned with both firewire and usb. Also, all the appropriate adapter are in there. Nice set of power adapters, anyone have a link of where to buy them? Nice 'n compact with all the usual 'head' styles.

Thanks to everyone who helped forward this on, I'll copy it up to my terabyte NAS and send it on its way. Whose next? Oh yeah, I just ripped some Anime goodness so I'll get some of that on das boxen. Want me to stick any Kuwait/Canada stickers to it?

          Cheers,

          Ps Signed the log.
Sorry dude, I thought I had emailed you when I sent it off, but apparently I didn't. I wanted to give you a heads up so that you knew it was coming.

I think you should probably send this one around the states, so we'll have one going around the sandbox and the other going around the US, and then swap them at some point.

Send me the details and I might be able to help as well (assuming I'm home for whenever this project goes down).

                Hey Deviant.

Your 1st Terabyte's going to be a little late coming home from school. My new FOUR 500 Gb hard drives are already shipped. I see your Two Terabytes and raise you 1 TB (Now my total capacity is 3 Tb, on this continent, 4 including Canada)

                Wheeee....

                Panthera

PS as a bonus, I'm going to try to compile, clean up all the music and get it organized into one structure. I have about 300 Gb that needs cleaning. Dirty music, Bad Bad...

                  and then there were two...

as mentioned in an above post, there is a second TTB that has been birthed from my workbench. (more photos here, btw) at this very moment they are mirrored and both in the wild. the contents are not exactly the same as listed above. going over some notes, it seems as though i misplaced the emulation/ROM archives. i still have them, but they're not on the TTBs at the moment. there is a massive audiobook archive, however. i'm a bit of a spoken content addict and have incorporated ~50 GB of speeches, lectures, books, and poetry on the TTB volumes. for anyone stuck in an inhospitable or boring place with an assload of downtime to kill (sort of the original projected audience of this project) that should certainly help pass the time.

shmoo rainbow tables are on the TTBs. shmoocon talks are not yet. coWPAtty tables are in there, however. running short on space. of the paired 500GB drives, one has about 10 GB free, the other has only like 3 Gigs of space. New tv show additions include The Prisoner, Prison Break, and The Muppet Show.

there are also some movies on the drives now. i recently demonstrated how bittorrent works to a guy who's staying in our spare room, and we subsequently acquired a large collection of B-movies, horror films, and mindless action content. If you're down with flicks like Escape From New York, The Devil's Rejects, Red Dawn, Silence of the Lambs, and movies featuring zombies then you're in for a treat. a small directory of material from Leïto is still there (things like Harvey Birdman and the Pimslieur language training series i know are part of that) but the mirror ASTCell's iPod was lost because i am a fuckhead and jumpped the gun on a format process before copying all files first.

in any case, after spending some time state-side i'd like the drives to make another trip to the sandbox or other posts. if you would care to nominate good people who are deployed right now, folks who are technically-savvy enough to put things to good use and would appreciate some content from home, please shoot me a PM and we'll try to work up a new route plan.

Holy cow this brings tears to my eyes. This is just too good to be true. You know what we get here for the most part? We get what did not sell at garage sales. Jane Fonda's workout. In Betamax. A history of Indian clay art in Arizona. Don't get me wrong, I am sure it is very educational but when the news is all about 'Borat' you just make a note to yourself to check it out in a year or so when you get home.

The first drive floored me but now you have a production line going. I will PM you with other info.

In the meantime I changed my forwarder. New link: http://travelingterabyte.org/

Two Traveling Terabyte's seem woefully too few...

I don't suppose you could post the recommened parts, what's worked and what to avoid at all costs? Winter is offically here and prime time television is now all reruns, I'd like to contribute something, or get one of the local Defcon groups / Boys and Girls clubs to help build a few TTB's over the usual meeting.

                        Enquiring minds want to know!

I believe that this thread, along with Deviant's Pictures, should be all the guidance you need. Good luck.

While there are some obvious visual cues from the photos, I'm really curious about the drives, if there's been any issues with building Version 1.0 of the TTB, anything we should be really looking out for.

                            Thanks!

I noticed the drives tended to overheat and shut down if I did an xcopy that took a few hours. I went back to copying in chunks.

I'd rather revive this thread than have the TTB sound like a fedex project. :-)

                                Some thoughts:

                                - How many TTBs can be in the field at once and still maintain command and control?
                                - Do you want to accept donations for folks wishing to see more TTBs out there?
                                - Will a TTB drive be ready to deploy by the end of Defcon or will only the copying be done?
-What else is there to think about?
