I want your ideas and input!!!

I know what I want in the grand scheme of things, but this is our "Forum" so I want to know what you guys would like for this years Forums Meet. So please spill your guts and tell me what kinds of things you'd like to see happen, ideas to making it better, something to make it more applicable to whatever it may be, etc.

Post away my happy and/or cranky forum minion's.....

One thing that was discussed on IRC years ago was a pie/baked goods showdown of some sort. I'd be totally down to have that. Facilities for baking wouldn't be easy to come by, but I know lots of folks would like to get down on some goodies if we could produce them!

Even some sort of crafts exchange would be cool. I know lots of people on here knit, sew, make soap, etc. It would be neat to see what people bring.

A few years ago DT did the PGP key exchange during the forum meet. DT's presence obviously helped bring a crowd and there was actually something going on other than people just sitting around looking at each other. Not sure if we want to do that again, especially in light of my next suggestion...

I would like to see the Forum meet be an actual party. Setting aside the logistics of a bar/alcohol (BYOB would probably work but not sure how the hotel would deal with that) but if we sort of made the forum meet an invite only party but your invitation is your forum badge (not exclusive, anyone can come as long as you are a member of the forums and are willing to make yourself a badge). Maybe get some entertainment (Lope, live music, something). Make it more of an actual event than it has been in the past and lasting longer than the usual 1 or 2 hours.

It would provide people that are relatively new to DEF CON with an organized party that they can actually get in to and they will at least have some idea of who they are seeing/talking to based on reading forum posts and folks essentially wearing their forum badge as a name tag.

Long story long...Forum Meet needs beer.

I'm sorry. You can't just decide to host an event at Defcon.

You need to get permission from DT.

Does this mean his status is on the bubble as well?

I missed last year's meet, and only made a few minutes at DC15's...but I will definitely try to schedule it this year.

Honestly. I do think the Admins and Mods should be required to attend the forum meet (don't forget *I* missed last year's so I am not getting snippy with anyone) assuming they are at DEF CON. If we are going to take responsibility for the forums and lay down the occasional smack I think we owe it to the forum members to be available for them to tell us face to face what we are doing wrong (and/or right if applicable) and for them to have a chance to meet us.

If we as mods don't care enough to show up at the forum meet why should be expect that anyone else will?

Ok I really liked the craft idea from a few cons ago...but not necessarily at the forum meet.

I would like to see more forum badge encouragement, to help identify each other. i'll do a template again if that helps. The years someone does a template seem to get more people wearing the avatar badges...

This is going to sound arrogant, but I really am only interested in meeting people at the forum meets that are at least semi-regulars around here. Someone who signs up a week before Defcon (you know how the new user count goes up exponentially as the conference approaces) and posts three times...

i missed last years forum meet. Honestly I don't remember why. maybe I was at some other meeting, or at the very least lack of advertising? I can't remember.
