Hell, that bus ride would kill me. Remember you get what you pay for. (or even less)

          Bus fare

Seriously, I'd be scared shitless if I were 14 and taking a bus. I took a bus trip from Cleveland to Traverse City when I was 19 and I was still scared shitless. Plus, remember that it will take DAYS to get from FL to Vegas. $178 is a steal.

Sorry, man, I would try priceline (or have someone else try to get you a ticket through priceline). You might get lucky. Also, you may up your chances if you can snag a ride to someplace like Orlando where more of your major flights will be departing.

I know you're young and if I were you I'd be scared. I'm not telling you NOT to come, but if you're going to have a hard time finding even $175 for transportation, affording the con otherwise might be tough.

Another option would be to caravan with someone. I doubt many folks will be caravaning from the SE US, but you never know. Hit up the ride boards and prepare to pony up $100 in gas in someone's big as wagon or SUV.

          Good luck.

I had originally planned on driving it myself, but only have so many vacation days... cutting travel from 1 week or more (straight through) down to two days was worth the extra $$...

of course at 14, I can't imagine having gone that far on my own.. hell, being my first time flying anywhere, I'm kinda nerved about this trip myself

$276 to fly on Southwest Airlines, not to mention the fact that you save a few days in drive time.

Heck if I was 14 I'd fly in a second. You can't get much more uncomfortable than a bus.

                plus with the added days you have to figure that much more for food and stuff... and if (you.stop == "anywhere overnight") { ++cash; } else { cout << "ouch my ass" << endl; }
if it gets me nowhere, I'll go there proud; and I'm gonna go there free.

Personally, I think this "kid" is either yanking our chain or clueless altogether.

In any regards, if he's for real, I wish him luck. But even at 25 even *I* am scared of some of you sometimes... :)

Hey, a little bit of paranoia never hurt anyone.

Ok...now I am no math major...but how does 300 bucks cover that?

                      178 bus fare
                      75 for DC
                      that is $253.00

How are you going to eat for a week and pay for a hotel on 47 bucks?
                      perl -e 'print pack(c5, (41*2), sqrt(7056), (unpack(c,H)-2), oct(115), 10)'

Hate to tell you kid, but it's going to take more than $300 unless you have some friends who are willing to give you free room and free food.

Personally I still haven't gotten to the money issue, the food issue, the room issue... I am still trying to get over the bus-ride itself...

I don't think I would take a public bus from Orange County to Las Vegas in the Summer if it was phree!*

Over the years humanity has mutated beyond anything imaginable...

Hopefully flightling finds some alternative method to accommodate him/her/it-self, and we do not tell people at future cons about this kid we all talked to on a board that never made it to the con, or ever made it back home...

Well a 14 year old will not get a room for $47, or for any other amount for that matter. You gotta be 18 or 21 in most if not all places.

And if he can get by on $300, then I want him to do my monthly house budget and save me tons!
