Bus Fares

Truthfully, McCarran is damn close to the AP, but I don't think they are going to let you walk across the tarmac. So, it probably is about 4 miles if you walk on the roads. And it is roads, there are no sidewalks from the airport to anywhere.

As for crime, the area between the AP and the strip along E. Harmon is OK. The strip is good. Don't walk from the strip to anywhere in N. Vegas (Fremont Street, the older hotels). If you have to walk, go in a group, and my personal advice is, if you get a bum like BlackWave, be armed. Or run fast.

I'm a less than efficient runner, so #1 is my preference, but it isn't nearly as safe as #2.

Last year, we were mildly un-sober, and went out to the 4 Queens with friends. Upon leaving, at 3 am, I noticed that there were no cabs out front. I asked my husband how far we were, he said 1-2 miles. I trusted him, thinking he was sober, and suggested we walk, since it was so beautiful outside.

We made it as far as the Stratosphere, with me carrying my laptop backpack, and in shoes that had formed massive blisters, and with both of us sprinting most of the way. Don't get in a cab with friends if you're drunk and don't know where you're going. There is an ugly side to Vegas that you don't see when it's bright, sunny, and you're sober.

Leaving the Strip

Haha, see this is what I'm talking about. Do not leave the strip!

Back at DC8 two friends and I decided to head down to Freemont St at about 2:30-3:00am. Well after taking some pictures of the local strip club and wandering around The Plaza, we decided it would be a good idea to walk back to the new strip.

On our way we saw an old man in an AT&T hat, being the geeks that we are we asked if we could take his picture. That was the scariest old man I'd ever seen, he started freaking out and yelling at us. We just thought it was funny and continued on our way. A little down the road we stop by a convenience store and got to watch a one legged bum chase a hooker down the street on crutches, all the while the hooker screaming "There isn't enough money in the world" as the bum hobbled after her. Aside from assorted homless people and local thugs, it wasn't that bad.

We stopped by the Sprint building and owned a Millenium payphone. I hopped in a dumpster outside the employment center and found all kinds of docs. We stopped by Showgirl Video to check out the 200+ channel porn booths. Saw the most ghetto tatoo/piercing shop on the face of the earth. And a hotel that is "Highly Recommended by Owner".

Now I probably would have been killed 20 yards into the walk if I wasn't with two of my largest and scariest looking friends. For those of you that have met me in person know that I look more like a Backstret Boy than a Hard Core Ghetto thug, so hanging out with two guys with Gauged Ears, Dredlocks, and Tattoo sleaves kept me alive. Amen for Friends!

Well in the off chance that anyone happens to be at the airport around 11pm thursday. Your welcome to ride in to the AP with me.
I've lived in Vegas and know better then to putz around in some areas.
I certainly would not want to hoof it from the airport to AP either.

So the line for the taxi is longer than the taxi line for us? Ugh. Is the wait over 15 minutes? Don't they haul as many folks as possible in one ride? Won't the hotel have a shuttle?

Maybe before I leave southern CA I can call the taxi place and have them reserve one for me ahead of time?

If someone wanted to make some quick cash they would rent a bus and charge 3 bucks a head to get to the Alexis Park. They'd help a lot of people out, and meet some kool people.

If I was getting in earlier I'd do it. Or someone can call a cab company and make sure they have extra staff on at that time, maybe get a free ride for themselves.

Yeah dude you passed though crack alley and shit, thats probibly one of the worst most crime infested areas. Glad you made it.

Yea they usually do but there is aloth of ppl

Don't some of the hotels offer a free shuttle?
Some hotels even offer free limousine as shuttle :) (by example the Holiday Inn Emerald, you had 2 destination you could go in limousine... Some casino on the strip and the airport)

While on the subject, what will a cab ride cost from the airport to AP?

I would say aound 6$ for a shuttle... dunno for cabs...
