If all goes as planned, there is a rather sizeable caravan sweeping from the east coast across to Vegas. If the driving is good, your welcome to join the caravan; or if you have a safe place to stick a car and make arrangements with someone in the caravan ahead of time, you might be able to hitch a ride from one of the meeting hubs and back.

Keep in mind though, the caravan is planning on arriving earlier, which would mean a day or two more at the hotel before people arrive. I don't know of a unified trip home.. as far as I know people may be leaving at different points... so those arrangements ahead of time would be important.

If you figure the cost of gas and extra time to drive out there.. you may reconsider simply flying there and back. Most people making the long haul are doing it for the road trip and not trying to save money.
if it gets me nowhere, I'll go there proud; and I'm gonna go there free.

Well.... thinking twice, I guees I can understand some of the hotel room pics.. and possibly an outweighing ratio of them.. I ended up with something like this myself. I had much more time before con to take pics, and didnt really want to be carrying the camera around at all times to capture _every_ event. It was also my first time in Vegas.. so I wanted to capture the Alexis before and after more than anything. However, there are a lot of room only sites that disappointed me...

This year I will be bringing a video camera of some sort and trying to make a sh00t3rs-like video.. hopefully without pissing off too many people. The trick is getting people to give up their video footage or digitally produce it themselves.. very very tricky thing :) (hint, hint)

        Gr3y t0qu3:
you also have to remember about the CDN dollar to US dollar exchange rate...and if i remember correctly, the exchange rate isn't very good right now...just don't get in over your head, and try and save up some extra money over the next few months just in case

Well, i don't plan on steeling any cars, so i'd have to hitch a ride with someone if i took the caravan, and yes, sponsors are welcome, maby a discount of the Admission Price? :) Yah, things are starting to look bad, i could afford it, if not for the price of flying ($750CND) i need a much cheaper way to get there, aka in a car if it all adds up to less.... or sponsors. Also my parents think i'll be killed, and they want me to go with an adult, aka them, but i've explained that that wouldn't work because i'd loose them asap. So, if anyone could offer me a ride, i'm small, i don't take up much room, i don't eat allot, and i don't smell..... sooo.... i'm thinking a sponsor Gr3y Campaign in in order... oh, and i'm sure i'll have to find someone to sign for my room, or to share a room with (along with my other friend) Well, i hope that i can do this

EDIT: GodMinusOne, already took that into effect, 114 for the cover charge, $367 for the hotel room if i go splits with my friend for 4 nights. And $753 for the plane ride, so i'm accepting sponsors, remember the USD is great! i take all denominations! oh, and boxes of KD will be accepted for food donations, and anything with caffene is accepted

            heh...good luck with that one...

also if you can get your parents to drive you to somewhere in the US, prehaps Buffalo, NY, the plane tickets will be much cheaper. i know that Southwest Airlines had cheap flights to almost anywhere in the US if you book them far enough in advance

lol...i think they're nickels...so by the time you convert that to US dollars, each nickel will be worth about $0.01 :p unless ast has a couple thousand of them...keep lookin for other sources of $

You can get a flight cheaper than $750. Last year I flew from Toronto to LV for $548 return with a stop over in Pittsburg. Keep your eyes open for that. I will admit though, once you factor in the exchange rate, it's quite expensive. The hotel itself is 1 1/2 blocks or so from the strip. And there is a convience store on one of the corners. We brought down food thinking we could boil water for noodle soap, no such luck. I pretty much lived on Peanut Butter. If you can afford to do it, you'll have fun.

Wrong sort of food! I make a Class 6 run as soon as I get there (military liquor store), which happens to be located inside the shoppette (military convenience store). Last year, I thought I'd be smart, and I grabbed cereal and milk, but forgot bowls and spoons (whoops!). Bread, PBJ, sandwhich meats, and the like would also have worked well. I'm also thinking of bringing my GF grill along this year, and grabbing a few small packs of fish, and maybe some zucchini and summer squash for some light lunches (or quick meals when I've had a little too much to drink and REALLY need to get something in my stomach!!!). Remember, those little fridges aren't just for holding the beer! Also, if you have one of those electric tea kettles, those are really handy for boiling water... but I certainly wouldn't want to live on cup noodle, heh. They're also a little bulky to pack.

well all, it sucks, but due to financial reasons i can not attend, i just don't have enough money to get there, and also my parents insist that i go with an adult that they know, this is not possible, i may be attending HOPE next year, and hopefully Defcon the year after. I'd like to thank everyone and i will still be looking for a way to go but i probably will not be able to attend..

I hear ya. Had I known there were no kettles in the rooms I would have rethought my strategy. Luckily the soup was in a package not in a actual cup. Had lots of oatmeal (bad move again). Pop tarts..ok cold. Cereal bars...thumbs up. Hmmm a GF grill. BBQ by pool 2!!!

Last year I brought a loaf of bread and 2 boxes of veggie burgers. Also condiments/veggies for the sandwiches and some fruit. Those kiwi saved my ass in the morning before I could get down to breakfast. It was enough food in conjunction with a free breakfast at the hotel and dinner with my group, as long as I didn't drink. Oh yeah, I brought alot of snacks and protein bars. This year I'd like to try bringing more food so maybe I can drink.

I highly recommend ppl bring food, especially if they eat something besides a Las Vegas diet.
