Might be a good conversation topic: Woman vs. Men when it comes to technical jobs & advancement and what we can do to improve our chances of getting fair treatment. :D

How about the topic of geek wrangling? Managing geeks in a highly competitive, results oriented environment can be a challenge. Especially if the one holding the reins is a chica and the geeks being wrangled are male.

Now seriously, I saw pictures, do you REALLY think this is a good idea? Besides, we are fostering an environment that addresses a minority of sorts. A safe harbor in the storm, free from toe sucking, and yellow pools.

Naturally, some things must be overlooked.
So all men are very much welcome but, it is probably safe to assume that conversation will spiral downward to male bashing.
You may find yourself lying on the floor with several livid females who desire a sacrificial martyr. :D

Depending on how well this goes, I may look at getting a larger room for the stay and inviting other unattached females to crash.

Perhaps in future years this gathering may evolve into a little something to actually persuade more females to attend the con.

I attended defcon last year for the first time, and this year I'd love to participate in a meet-up for us geek girls (already got my room booked at the Alexis.. woo hoo!). I loved meeting some REAL geek girls last year (as opposed to the haXXX0r pr0n ones). :D I've done tech support, systems administration, and info sec/analysis.. and I've got a few stories about being female amongst cocky (all puns intended) male techies.

And last year I got tired of being asked whose girlfriend I was, and whether or not I'd show my tits. :p

Actually, I am from West Virginia. At one time I was scheduled to attend a conference in that area. But we can use all the help we can get.


The next thing would be to get the word out to anyone else who may be interested in this type of discussion. It is still early enough to talk to others and gather input as to interest levels.

I believe there is a genuine interest in this type of gathering, provided that we keep the topic open and general in nature. It is already becoming apparent that there are two or more viewpoints on the idea. This is great! A gathering like this could really expand the minds of other females/males on the topic at hand.
