yeah that is a good approach, sounds reasonable. I was just curious and hadnt thought about it and then the risk analyst in me kicked into gear and i started thinking about all the potential risks and exposures one may have, ex: the communal bin of alcohol, ie joe schmuck has to much, drives, kills someone, linked back to free booze, and underage.
Okay ill stop thinking now :) its much easier haha
In that case you should discuss ways in which to make sure those whom are driving are not intoxicated.

Why not go with the Designated Driver deal and have wristbands for the drinkers so we know who are DC folk and who are trying to freeload. That way we can also try to manage the underage drinking issue as well. My fear would be something stupid happening and it backfiring on the organizers. Just an idea.
Oh, so they have internet on computers now!

I dont drink so ill be a D.D. if needed. Also last year was really great time. I think most everyone donated food and drinks more than they took thats what made it.
This year ill have a rental car/van so ill help out all I can
The deffest BBQ to happen on a Thursday in Las Vegas should most definately return. The sequal must not be a lame rendition of the first.
Official event: don't care
More turnout: don't care
Organizational worries and hyper planning-fu: erm... whatever.
The food run can be fixed by:
* setting a specific location for meetup
* setting a specific time for meetup
* sticking to that time and leaving slackers behind
* making directions from the hotel to the run spot(s) and park destination so that all drivers are informed
I might also suggest giving more time for the food run, due to the time it took for us to get the cars caravan'd over, the consumables purchased, and back to the park.
Half the fun of the BBQ, imo, was the cloud of hackers overturning the store for meats, beers, and accessories. The entire time was a blast and the spare food was put to good use.

Details to follow as time and space merge into fact
Thursday, July 28th, 6:00pm - be there or be ... elsewhere
if it gets me nowhere, I'll go there proud; and I'm gonna go there free.
2. Taxi service needs to actually have a leader to get people into cars. Principals of self-orginization failed miserably last year.
Yeah, Im glad my group decided to take a rental car, if not I probably would not have made it. We then ended up using the car to help people pickup last minute items.
I was told yeah, just find whoever at the door, they got such and such color car/van they will be leaving X'ish.
I missed it last year but will be there this year without fail. I have also heard of these notorius "ribs"...
Al
Yeah, I think the ribs were the hit, they went as quick as they were cooked, some left the grill before they were cooked. Some of the BBQ Ribs The Cherry Cola Ribs

did we have enough alcohol last year?
what i worry most about is a heard of people showing up with no booze and draining all the stuff we paid for....
Hmm I didn't show up with booze, I have no clue what I was thinking. I brought chips, steaks, sausage, sodas, but no booze. This year some kind of alcohol will be on the list.
I didn't see a shortage though, there was an abundance even after the BBQ ended, some made its way to parties.
My only comment is the food cooking seemed to be rushed, things didnt get going until late.
you're right, in our defence though, most of us grill masters were late from the shopping trip.... and i was even later because i went back to pick up any stragglers...
and none of my food was underdone either.... if anything i dried some stuff out in an attempt to prevent having the first toxic bbq turn into the first dhiaria con....
